Ontario Reign News Release
BOISE, Idaho - The Ontario Reign, proud affiliate of the NHL Los Angeles Kings and AHL Manchester Monarchs, was shutout by the Idaho Steelheads, 3-0, on Wednesday evening. The first in a three-game road series was played before a crowd of 3,850 fans at Qwest Arena.
During the first 41 minutes of the match, neither team was able to find the back of the net, despite three power play opportunities between the clubs. The last 11:33 of the game saw Idaho score three unanswered goals. The first goal came at 8:27, when Steelheads left wing Brent Shepheard picked up the rebound from forward Ben Nelson's bid. Shepheard threw a backhander past Ontario netminder Jeff Zatkoff, who was unable to see the shot through a screen in front of the crease. Defenseman Adam Welch picked up the secondary assist on the first goal of the night. The second unanswered goal, which bounced into the net off an Ontario defenseman at 18:45, was credited to forward Tyler Shelast with an assist from forward Bryan McGregor.
Ontario pulled Zatkoff for the extra attacker, but Bryan McGregor capitalized on the opportunity and sent the puck sailing into the empty net from almost behind the opposite goal line. Defenseman Kory Scoran notched the assist on the empty netter, and Idaho won the match with a final score of Steelheads 3, Reign 0.
