STOCKTON, Calif. - The Stockton Thunder announced over $13,000 was raised in charitable efforts for the weekend of Mar. 6-7, when the Thunder hosted two games against the Bakersfield Condors and Utah Grizzlies in their first annual "Easy Being Green" event in partnership with Port of Stockton California and co-sponsors California Water Service Company, News 10 Living Green, KAT Country 103, 99.3 KJOY, AM 970 ESPN Radio, KHOP 95.1, 97.7 & 98.3 KWIN, 104.1 The Hawk and Radio Disney.

"We were proud to be the presenting sponsor of the inaugural Stockton Thunder's Easy Being Green campaign. It was a wonderful opportunity for the Port of Stockton to share our environmental programs and eco-friendly practices with the community," said Jeff Wingfield, Environmental Manager, Port of Stockton California.

The two day event, which drew over 14,000 fans to Stockton Arena for both games, culminated the Thunder's season-long eco-friendly awareness campaign with a hockey twist which encouraged ideas for hockey fans to preserve the environment. Before each game, there was a "Green Fair" featuring local eco-friendly businesses and organizations distributing information and green-themed giveaways.

The event also featured an "Easy Being Green Award," in which $2 from each individual or group ticket sold, along with a portion of the proceeds from the pre-game "Green Fair," were collected to be awarded to a local eco-friendly business for donation to a charity of their choosing.

The inaugural recipient of the "Easy Being Green Award," selected by the Thunder in conjunction with the Greater Stockton Chamber of Commerce's Green Team San Joaquin, is Surtec, Inc. The company's green efforts include the promotion of green technology and the development of products, programs and procedures aimed at achieving a cleaner and healthier environment.

Bill Fields, president and co-founder of Surtec, Inc., will be presented with a check in the amount of $13,024 during the first intermission of the Thunder's March 28th game against the Victoria Salmon Kings. The company will donate the monies to its Adopt-A-Family Program, a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation which provides food and gifts to needy families during the holiday season. Since its inception in 1991, Surtec's Adopt-A-Family Program has helped over 4,220 families in the Bay Area, Tri-Valley, and Central Valley regions.

The proud ECHL affiliate of the National Hockey League's Edmonton Oilers and American Hockey League's Springfield Falcons, the Thunder has led the ECHL in attendance for three consecutive seasons and drew 239,337 fans to Stockton Arena in 2007-08. Season tickets for 2009-10 are now on sale.
