Captain Marty Flichel injured; expected to sit out this week's series against Ontario

Boise, Idaho - The Idaho Steelheads today announced defenseman Blake Friesen has been signed to an ECHL contract and will suit up for the team tonight, as Idaho hosts the Ontario Reign for the first time at Qwest Arena.

Friesen, who will play in his first pro game with the Steelheads, is a 6-foot-2, 200-pound Minnesota native. The 23-year-old spent four seasons with Minnesota State University where he lettered his first three years and served his senior year as assistant captain. Friesen played a total 111 games for the MSU Mavericks with 4 goals,13 assists and 80 penalty minutes. Prior to college, he played two seasons of junior hockey with the USHL's Sioux Falls Stampede and was a finalist for Minnesota's Mr. Hockey Award as a high school senior at Benilde-St. Margaret's in 2004.
