Steelheads stop the Reign

Boise, ID- The Idaho Steelheads (40-22-4) and Ontario Reign (36-28-5) found themselves in a goaltenders' duel between Idaho's Matt Climie and Ontario's Jeff Zatkoff, before Brent Shepheard started the Steelheads road to victory. The Steelheads finished Ontario by a 3-0 score in front of 3,850 fans at Qwest Arena.

Climie and Zatkoff dueled into the third period when Brent Shepheard scored on Idaho's 33rd shot of the night to break the scoreless tie. Shepheard's goal was his ninth, assisted by Ben Nelson and Adam Welch. At 18:45 of the third period, Tyler Shelast took a pass from Bryan McGregor through the slot, and his attempt at a give-and-go with McGregor hit an Ontario defenseman and bounced in the net to give the Steelheads a 2-0 lead. The goal was the eighth for Shelast.

At 19:24, Bryan McGregor sent the puck the length of the ice into the empty net to secure the win for Idaho, making the score 3-0. Kory Scoran assisted on McGregor's team-leading 30th of the season.

Climie stopped 15 shots for his third shutout of the season. His record improves to 25-12-1. The shutout was an Idaho Meth Project "Not Even Once" shutout. Zatkoff stopped 33 of 35 for the Reign, as his record fell to 16-14-2.

The Steelheads and Reign are back in action on Friday night at Qwest Arena. The puck drops at 7:10 PM.
