Kalamazoo Wings News Release
Elmira, NY - Scoring three unanswered goals, the Elmira Jackals extended the Kalamazoo Wings road losing streak to a season-high four games with a 4-1 victory Wednesday night at the First Arena.
Special teams paid dividends in the opening period. In their lone power-play attempt of the period Elmira grabbed an early advantage with a goal from Mike Vaskivuo (11th) 9:28 into the stanza.
Not to be outdone minutes later, Kalamazoo capitalized on their only man-advantage in the first period with a tally from Matt Caria (14th). Needing just six seconds of power-play time, Caria scored with a wrister from the right circle.
Elmira recaptured the lead late in the second period. With 31.4 seconds remaining in the middle frame, Dean Walters (3rd) sent a wrist shot off the post and over the goal line to give the Jackals a 2-1 lead heading into the third period.
Kyle Bushee (6th) and Artem Demkov (11th) tacked on goals in the final period to put the game out of reach for Elmira.
Kalamazoo will continue their three-game road swing with the middle leg this Friday, January 31st with a 7p.m. encounter at the WesBanco Arena against the Wheeling Nailers.
The K-Wings will return to Wings Stadium on Wednesday, February 5th with a 7p.m. face-off versus the Elmira Jackals during a 5:01 Wednesday. February 5th will also be a Winning Wednesday presented by WNWN.
