Jackals Eclipse 2008-2009 Mark With Sixth

November 23, 2009 - ECHL (ECHL)
Elmira Jackals News Release

With two sell outs this past weekend, the Elmira Jackals rolled past their 2008-2009 total of five sell-out crowds (which tied for the ECHL lead), reaching their sixth sell out in a 5-3 win against Wheeling on Saturday night at First Arena. The Jackals are drawing at 103.9% of capacity in 2009-2010, over 20% more than any team in the rest of the ECHL.

Crowds of 4,055 and 3,982 witnessed the Jackals take three points this weekend against the Nailers, with the 5-3 Saturday victory following Friday's 3-2 overtime loss. The Jackals will play their third straight game against the Nailers on Friday, November 27 at 7:35 p.m.

WELCOME TO ELMIRA, YANNICK TIFU

After a scoreless debut with the Jackals, Yannick Tifu notched four points (1g-3a) in Saturday's win, including a goal midway through the second period to score the Jackals first of four straight goals in the comeback victory.

Tifu was acquired by the Jackals on October 27 from the Victoria Salmon Kings, but was unable to participate in games with the Jackals until this past weekend because of immigration paperwork. The fifth year veteran practiced regularly with the Jackals, however, since arriving in Elmira in early November and traveled with the team on two road trips, allowing him time to develop chemistry with his new teammates.

Tifu's four points Saturday came against Nailers goaltender Adam Berkhoel. The two were teammates in 2006-2007, when they led the Dayton Bombers to the Kelly Cup Finals. Tifu scored 77 points (26g-51a) with Dayton to lead the Bombers that season, while Berkhoel was named the ECHL's Goaltender of the Year.

TYLER PICKS UP WHERE JUSTIN LEFT OFF

Although his twin brother Justin was inactive this past weekend after being named the ECHL's Player of the Week for Nov. 9 - Nov. 15, Tyler Donati scored four points in the two games (2g-2a) to extend his ECHL-leading scoring streak to 12 games, the longest by any player this season. With the four points, Tyler moved past Justin for the league lead with 30 points (9g-21a). Justin holds second place with 28 points (8g-20a), scoring at two points per game.

PLUS-MINUS DUO DOES IT AGAIN

Defensemen Brennan Turner and Travis Gawryletz continue to be one-two in the ECHL's plus-minus category, with Turner notching a +3 this weekend and Gawryletz recording a +1 over the two games. Turner's +18 leads the ECHL, while Gawryletz' +15 puts him in second place. Gawryletz buried his first career game-winning goal in Saturday's win, firing home a one timer from the left circle in the third period to put the Jackals up 4-3.
