Charlotte Checkers News Release

CHARLOTTE, NC-The Charlotte Checkers have renewed their partnership with Goodwill Industries of the Southern Piedmont, Checkers senior vice president Aaron Osborne announced today. This is the third year the Checkers have partnered with the regional Goodwill agency and programs and events are scheduled at Time Warner Cable Arena throughout the 2009-2010 season.

"We are extremely excited to have Goodwill of the Southern Piedmont as a partner again," said Osborne. "Our partnership with Goodwill allows us to continue to align ourselves with other community-based, local organizations."

As part of the Checkers/Goodwill partnership, the team hosted a successful donation collection night on Saturday, Nov. 21 and will host another on Mar. 13. Fans who donate new or gently-used clothing items to Goodwill will receive a complimentary ticket to an upcoming game. Additionally, the Checkers will host two Goodwill group event nights during the season to recognize graduates of Goodwill's job training programs.

"Goodwill is pleased to once again be associated with the Charlotte Checkers and their brand of family-focused entertainment," said Bo Hussey, vice president of marketing and communications for Goodwill. "By bringing our two organizations together, we hope to create awareness of the work Goodwill does in the local community. With more donations and sales at our retail stores, we can further support our training programs that benefit families."

Goodwill operates 20 retail stores and has more than 30 donation sites in the Southern Piedmont region of North and South Carolina. Proceeds from the sale of donated goods fund job training and employment services for individuals facing barriers to employment such as lack of skills, experience or education. In 2008, Goodwill Industries of the Southern Piedmont delivered services to more than 13,300 individuals, placed more than 2,700 people in employment and helped divert more than 54 million pounds of goods from area landfills.
