It's a Good Day to be Carlos Torres

September 1, 2009 - International League (IL1)
Charlotte Knights News Release

FORT MILL, S.C. - September 1, 2009 - Charlotte Knights pitcher Carlos Torres received two pieces of good news today: first, he was recalled to Chicago as the Major League rosters were expanded. Second, he was named to the International League's 2009 All-Star team were he was named the starting pitcher at that position.

Torres is 10-4 with a 2.39 ERA with 130 strikeouts on the season. He is currently 2nd in ERA and 3rd in strikeouts in the league.

The highlight of the season for Torres was pitching a rain-shortened perfect game in a 5-0 victory over the Pawtucket Red Sox. The game was called after an extended rain delay. He retired all 15 batters he faced in order with five strikeouts, five groundouts and five fly-outs. He threw 58 pitches-41 of those were strikes. It was the first no-hitter in the International League this season and the first perfect game in Charlotte history. Torres became the first IL pitcher to throw five-inning no-hitter since current New York Yankees closer Mariano Rivera did it for Columbus against Rochester on June 26, 1995.

Torres was a 15th round selection by the Chicago White Sox in 2004.

The Knights conclude the 2009 season with a three-game series against Durham beginning September 2.
