Norfolk Tides News Release

An eight-run fourth inning higlighted Norfolk's 10-0 game two win in a doubleheader split with Charlotte Tuesday night at Harbor Park.

The Tides led game two 1-0 before they exploded for a season-high eight runs on five hits in the fourth frame. Guillermo Rodriguez' three-run double highlighted the inning, while Robby Hammock added a two-run single off of Charlotte starter John Van Benschoten (2-7).

Norfolk starter Andy Mitchell (11-5) picked up the victory, moving him into a tie for 4th in the IL in wins. The win was also his 31st in his Tides career, tying him with Jeff Bittiger ('83-'85) and Mike Scott ('77-'80) for the 6th-most in franchise history.

Mitchell allowed just one hit in the outing, an infield single in the fifth inning by catcher Miguel Gonzalez.

The win snapped a six-game losing skid and improved Norfolk's record to 68-68.

In game one, Tides starter David Pauley (9-12) picked up Norfolk's first complete game of the season, but four Charlotte pitchers held the Tides to five singles as the Knights blanked Norfolk 4-0. Pauley allowed four runs on four hits in the contest, walking one and striking out five.

Princess Anne High School and Old Dominion University product Daniel Hudson was impressive in the start for Charlotte, as he allowed one single and one walk while striking out five in three innings.

Kelvin Jimenez (6-3) picked up the win for Charlotte with two scoreless innings of relief.

Dave Krynzel led Norfolk's offense with two hits in his first game with the Tides after being promoted from Double-a Bowie earlier in the day.

The Tides will welcome the Gwinnett Braves to Harbor Park on Wednesday night in the final three-game home series of the season. Chris George (1-1, 3.93) will look to make his third straight impressive start for Norfolk against Braves left-hander Jonny Venters (3-6, 5.24). First pitch is scheduled for 7:15.
