Norfolk Tides News Release
The Orioles today announced that they have recalled RHP MATT ALBERS and LHP ALBERTO CASTILLO from Triple-A Norfolk, reinstated RHP DENNIS SARFATE from the 15-day disabled list and selected the contract of OF JEFF FIORENTINO from Norfolk.
Albers, 26, is 2-4 with a 5.85 ERA (52.1IP, 34ER) in 42 games with the Orioles.
Castillo, 34, appeared in four games for the Orioles this year, recording a 3.86 ERA (2.1IP, 1ER). He was 2-3 with a 2.77 ERA (52.0IP, 16ER) in 50 games for Norfolk and held left-handed batters to a .164 average (12-73).
Sarfate, 28, has been on the disabled list since May 3 with a circulatory condition. In eight games with the Orioles in 2009, Sarfate posted a 6.39 ERA (12.2IP, 9ER).
Fiorentino, 26, batted .312 (114-365) with 12 home runs and 67 RBI in 102 games for Norfolk. The left-handed hitting outfielder spent time at all three outfield positions for the Tides and batted over .300 against left-handers (.301, 25-for-83) and right-handers (.316, 89-for-282). Fiorentino also played for the Orioles in 2005 and 2006 and will wear number 70.
To make room for Fiorentino on the 40-man roster, the Orioles transferred LHP RICH HILL (left shoulder surgery) from the 15-day to the 60-day disabled list.
The Orioles currently have 29 players on their active roster.
