Albuquerque Isotopes News Release

A post-game fireworks show had nothing on the in-game pyrotechnics, as the Albuquerque Isotopes (9-6) set a record by belting four home runs in a 10-run second inning to help defeat the Nashville Sounds (3-13) 15-10 on a wild Saturday night at Isotopes Park. Brett Carroll had two dingers for the 'Topes, who hit a total of six long balls on the night on their way to a sixth straight victory.

After Nashville jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the second, Albuquerque roared back, scoring ten runs. Dallas McPherson hit a leadoff single to right, Tagg Bozied walked, and John Baker followed a Carroll strikeout with a walk of his own to load the bases. A wild pitch by Nashville starter Nic Ungs scored McPherson from third, giving the Isotopes their first run of the game. Shortstop Chris Barnwell then scorched a line-drive double to right center, sending home Bozied and Baker. Even Isotopes starting pitcher Kenny Baugh got into the hit parade with a deep fly ball double to left-center field, scoring Barnwell to give Albuquerque its first lead 4-3. A ground out by Jai Miller advanced Baugh to third for Chase Lambin, who blasted a two-run homer deep over the left-center field fence. The very next batter, red-hot John Gall, added a solo blast to left field, giving the 'Topes a 7-3 advantage. McPherson then singled up the middle in front of Bozied, who added a home run deep over the Blake's Lotaburger pavilion in left. That was enough for Sounds manager Frank Kremblas, who removed Ungs for reliever Tim Dillard, who ended up having similar luck, as the first batter he faced, Carroll, launched the fourth home run of the frame to cap the scoring at 10-3. When the dust had cleared, 13 Isotopes had stepped up the plate and the 10 runs were the third most ever scored in a single inning in team history.

The Sounds responded in the top of the third with back-to-back home runs to narrow the Isotopes' lead to 10-5. With runners on second and third and one out, Hernan Iribarren hit an RBI ground-out, giving the Sounds their third run in the frame and bringing the score to 10-6.

Nashville continued to chip away at Albuquerque's lead, coming all the way to within one at 10-9 before the Isotopes scored two in the bottom of the seventh. With Bozied on base, Carroll blasted his second homer of the evening to give the 'Topes some much-needed breathing room at 12-9. McPherson would cap the Albuquerque scoring in the bottom of the eighth with a monstrous three run shot, Albuquerque's sixth homer of the night, adding some more insurance, making the score 15-9.

The Sounds would add one more in the ninth, but it was too little too late as the Isotopes closed out the 15-10 win.

Albuquerque will try and make a lucky seven in a row the second game of a four game series with Nashville. Left-hander Chris Seddon (1-0, 3.18) will toe slab for the 'Topes against Sounds port-sider Zach Jackson (1-2, 5.50) in a 1:35 PM matinee at Isotopes Park. The first 3,000 fans in attendance will receive Drawstring Backpacks courtesy of the Department of Homeland Security. Tickets can be purchased at Isotopes Park or any Ticketmaster outlet, www.ticketmaster.com, or Ticketmaster by phone 505-883-7800.
