Allowed 2 R on 4 H with 6 K and 1 BB over 5.0 IP in 4/15 loss at NOZ LAST GAME:
RedHawks starter A.J. Murray overcame a 43-pitch first inning to pick up his second win of the year while the RedHawks' offense contributed another strong performance in Saturday's 7-4 win over the Iowa Cubs at Principal Park. Chris Shelton drove in three runs in separate innings and Nate Gold hit his fourth homer of the year as Oklahoma overcame a 2-0 deficit after the first inning to drop Iowa to 7-8. Oklahoma has homered in nine straight games while winning four of its last five and 11 of its last 13. The RedHawks took a 4-2 lead with a three-run fourth inning against Cubs starter Mark Holliman (0-1), who lasted 4.1 innings while allowing five runs on four hits. Oklahoma would not relinquish the lead thereafter as Murray (2-0) went five innings, allowing two runs on four hits. Robinson Tejeda and Kameron Loe followed with two innings each in relief.
PRINCIPAL OF THE THING:
The RedHawks have won four straight at Iowa's Principal Park, and now own a 30-34 mark at Iowa. Oklahoma swept a three-game series last season in their second trip to Des Moines, winning by scores of 11-5, 10-5, and 11-3.
WALK OF LIFE:
Nelson Cruz added to base on balls to his tally sheet last night, taking his total to 15, second most in the PCL. Nelson ranks among the league leaders in several other categories including on-base percentage (3rd- .525) and on-base plus slugging percentage (3rd- 1.264).
STREAKING:
Three RedHawk streaks were extended in last night's win. Nate Gold's leadoff shot in the second marked the ninth consecutive game with at least one Oklahoma home run. Brandon Boggs double in the fourth increased his hitting streak to nine games, while Jason Ellison's double in the sixth inning moved his run to ten consecutive games with at least one hit. Ellison's streak is the longest by a RedHawk since Tug Hulett had hits in 14 straight from July 12-26, 2007.
FIRST TO FOUR:
Doug Mathis was the first PCL pitcher to earn three wins this season, and takes the mound today looking to be the first hurler to garner four wins. Mathis made three appearances for Oklahoma last season and lost all three.
Iowa AT A GLANCE:
The Cubs have only been able to string two wins together once this season, taking both games of a doubleheader on April 12 at Nashville. They also only have one losing streak. They lost back-to-back games on April 5 and 6 to Round Rock. Otherwise, the I-Cubs have bounced from win to loss in every other game this season.
AROUND THE ORGANIZATION:
Texas dropped a 5-3 decision at Boston. Frisco upended Corpus Christi 15-5... Bakersfield beat Lancaster 8-5... Clinton edged Dayton 4-3 in 11 innings.
DOT-DOT-DOT:
Former RedHawk German Duran got his first major league hit last night, a single in the second inning off Boston's Jon Lester. Duran went 1-2 in the game and played the outfield for the first time in his career (LF)... Saturday night marked the first A.J. Murray start where he failed to strikeout five batters. Murray had retired exactly five on strikes in his three previous outings.
