Round Rock Express News Release

ROUND ROCK - Chad Reineke turned the corner Sunday, but didn't find much help waiting.

The 6-foot-6 right-hander shrugged off two previous rough outings, exiting in the seventh with his Express trailing 2-0. Mark Saccomanno evened the score with a two-run blast in the eighth but Memphis picked up the final run in the top of the ninth to hand Round Rock its fourth straight loss, 3-2.

The Express scratched out six hits in front of 9,385 fans at The Dell Diamond, highlighted by Saccomanno's 417-foot shot in the eighth.

Carrying a 13.50 earned-run average into Sunday, Reineke nearly sliced that number in half with more than six solid innings. He fanned eight against one walk and six hits, working through six shutout frames until the Redbirds caught up to him in the seventh.

David Freese led the top of the seventh off with a walk and Cody Haerther followed up with a single through the left side. Reineke picked up his final strikeout and induced a pop-out from Nick Stavinoha before D'Angelo Jimenez drove a two-run, pinch-hit double to right to put the game's first runs on the board.

For the Redbirds, right-hander Blake Hawksworth worked six polished innings, holding Round Rock to two hits and two walks while fanning five.

Ryan Houston allowed the go-ahead run in the ninth, suffering his first loss of the season.

Notes: The Houston Astros purchased the contract of left-hander Tim Byrdak after Sunday's game. Byrdak was 0-0 with a 3.68 ERA with 10 strikeouts against no walks in seven relief appearances for the Express. Byrdak, 34, will join the Astros in time for Monday's game against San Diego in Houston.
