Isotopes play .500 in April, gear up for May

Albuquerque completed its first month of the 2004 season in better shape then when it started. After losing the first three games of 2004 at Memphis, the Isotopes recorded a winning opening homestand, taking five victories in eight games against Nashville and Memphis. Albuquerque also won five of eight games on its recent road trip, finishing April with an 11-11 record. Derek Wathan continued his strong play from last season, setting a franchise record with an 18-game hitting streak. Closer Toby Borland led the Isotopes pitching staff with three wins and four saves, including two saves in one day in a doubleheader sweep of Omaha on April 26. In May, the Isotopes will play ten Central Division games, including hosting Omaha for a four-game series May 7-10.

Isotopes Return Home For Four-Game Homestand

Albuquerque will host its third homestand of the season beginning this Friday, welcoming the Omaha Royals to town for a four-game series. The Isotopes kick off the homestand with a glow-in-the-dark baseball giveaway to the first 2,000 fans, courtesy of Network Architechs. On Saturday, the popular Cheerstixs will be given out to the first 3,000 fans, sponsored by Quality DiLorenzo. Also, gates will open at 5 PM to allow fans a chance to watch batting practice. Earlier in the day, the Isotopes will hold the first of three youth baseball clinics. Isotopes players will help youths 5-15 improve their baseball skills. Sunday's 1:35 PM game is Mother's Day at Isotopes Park. Upon exiting, 2,000 roses will be handed out to moms, courtesy of The Flowerage. The Isotopes conclude the four-game homestand with a Monday matinee, beginning at 12:05 PM. The first 2,000 fans will receive a poster, sponsored by The New Mexico Heritage Preservation Alliance. Isotopes To Host Youth Clinics

This summer, kids will have the chance to learn the fundamentals of baseball from Albuquerque Isotopes players and coaches. The Isotopes will host three youth baseball skills clinics at Isotopes Park during the season, beginning this Saturday, May 8.

The clinics are open to kids 5-15 years of age with a maximum of 100 kids per clinic. To sign up, register in person at the Isotopes Administrative Office, located on the 2nd floor of Isotopes Park, between the hours of 10:30 AM – 4:30 PM.

A registration fee of $50 will get each player instruction, an Isotopes hat, water bottle, certificate, a post-clinic lunch provided by Sonic Drive-In, and two tickets to that night's Isotopes game. Participants are asked to bring their own baseball gloves, proper clothing, protective equipment, and proper footwear.

Pick one up at any Rio Grande Public Library, Corrales Library, Bosque Farms Library, Bernalillo Library, Rio Rancho Library or Los Lunas Library. Dion's Club Read packets will also be available at Isotopes Park.
