Tucson Sidewinders News Release
Tucson connected on four, first inning home runs Thursday morning on the way to a 11-5 win over Las Vegas at Cashman Field. The win enabled the Sidewinders to avoid a four-game sweep to the 51's and remain in first place in the PCL South Division.
The Sidewinders were shorthanded between call-ups, injuries and sickness. Steve Garrabrants joined Tucson from extended spring training and got his first start above rookie ball. The former Arizona State product homered on his first Triple-A swing to start the game against Heath Totten. Victor Hall followed with his first Triple-A home run. Before the inning was over Tucson produced six hits, including two more solo home runs from Alan Zinter and Steve Neal.
Noochie Varner homered for Tucson in the second inning as the Sidewinders built a 5-0 advantage.
Andrew Good pitched six strong innings to collect his third win. Good allowed six hits and three runs while striking out seven.
Vegas scored four straight runs to close within 5-4 before Tucson scored six more runs in the ninth to put the game out of reach.
Neal highlighted the 15 hit attack for the Sidewinders with two doubles, a home run and two RBI.
Tucson's record improved to 15-12. The Sidewinders will travel to Fresno to begin a four-game series with the Grizzlies Friday night. Casey Fossum (1-0 0.00) will start for Tucson against the Grizzlies Kevin Correia (0-1 4.30). Game time is set for 7:05 p.m. and the game will be broadcast live on Cool 1450.
