Isotopes Hold Salute To Public Safety This Sunday
April 19, 2007 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Albuquerque Isotopes News Release
The Albuquerque Isotopes will pay tribute to all of those agencies throughout the city and state that work tirelessly to keep all of us safe in a special Salute to Public Safety Day this Sunday, April 22, when the 'Topes take on the New Orleans Zephyrs at Isotopes Park at 1:35 PM.
Among the myriad activities will be the annual Albuquerque Police vs. Fire Department Tug-Of-War held pre-game, a K-9 demo, and a helicopter fly-over courtesy of the Albuquerque Police Department and Bernalillo County Sheriff's Department.
The team will also play a special video on the scoreboard honoring those local law enforcement officials that have lost their lives in the line of duty.
Recently retired Belen Fire Department chief Wayne Gallegos, who gave 24 years of service to his community, will be on hand to throw out a first pitch, as will Officer Marcus Moya of the Albuquerque Police Department, who was shot twice while apprehending a burglary suspect on December 15 of last year. Despite being wounded, Moya wrestled the suspect to the ground and was able to pin him until the shooter was taken into custody, an act of incredible bravery that earned Moya two Purple Hearts, and the New Mexico Law Enforcement Officer of the Year Award, among others.
The New Mexico State Police will also have a booth set up along the concourse at Isotopes Park where parents can get ID kits for their children and information on how to protect them from abduction.
Salute To Public Safety is part of a four-game homestand against the New Orleans Zephyrs that includes other great promotions like a Myron Noodleman appearance and 50-Cent Hot Dog Night. Individual game tickets, season tickets and mini-plans are now on sale at Isotopes Park. For information on All-Star Fiesta ticket plans, season tickets and mini-plans, please call (505) 924-BALL or visit www.albuquerquebaseball.com.
