
Sounds Win Pitchers Duel

Nashville pitcher Yovani Gallardo kept Oklahoma in check and the Sounds defeated the RedHawks 3-1 Thursday night at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark. Gallardo (2-1) out-dualed RedHawk starter Alfredo Simon (1-2) in a game where all the scoring was done in the first two innings.
Nashville took an early 1-0 lead in the first when J.D. Closser's sacrifice fly scored Jose Macias. The Sounds added two more in the second on a Brad Nelson homer and an RBI triple for Macias. Nelson finished the game 2-for-4 with a double and a home run.
After hitting a triple, Marlon Byrd scored the only RedHawk run on a Desi Relaford ground out in the second inning. The RedHawks had a chance in the ninth with two runners on but Dennis Sarfate came in and got three outs to earn his third save of the season.
Gallardo allowed a run on three hits in six innings and struck out seven RedHawk hitters. Simon pitched well enough to win on most nights, allowing three runs (two earned) on three hits over seven innnings.
The final game of the series is Friday night at 7:05 CDT at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark.
