Isotopes Fall Behind Early, Lose 8-5 to El Paso

June 24, 2015 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Albuquerque Isotopes News Release

NEED TO KNOW: The Albuquerque Isotopes (31-41) surrendered seven runs in the first two innings and couldn't climb out the whole Tuesday night at Southwest University Park as the El Paso Chihuahuas (36-35) took an 8-5 victory in the opening game of a three-game series.

THE TURNING POINT: It took the Chihuahuas just two batters to score their first run of the game and only eight batters to score their first four runs in the opening frame. Abraham Almonte scored on a sacrifice fly after a leadoff triple, and Cody Decker added a two-RBI double. El Paso's fourth run of the first inning came off a Rocky Gale RBI single. After the Isotopes scored a pair of runs in the second, the Chihuahuas expanded their lead back to 7-2 in the home half of the inning. Albuquerque managed to chip away with a single run in the third and two more in the sixth but could never erase the early deficit.

ATTA BOY ADAMES: Cristhian Adames turned in a 2-for-5 game with a run scored and an RBI. He picked up an RBI-single in the sixth. Adames now has hits in four straight games and in six of his last seven outings.

DOUBLES TO GO AROUND: Three Isotopes batters picked up doubles during the game: Dustin Garneau, Matt McBride and Tim Wheeler. With his 1-for-4 game, Garneau is now batting .386 (18-for-48) with eight runs scored, three doubles, four homers, 13 RBI and five walks in his last 13 games. McBride went 1-for-3 and is now batting .374 (67-for-179) with 38 runs scored, 14 doubles, a triple, nine homers, 23 RBI and seven walks in his last 44 games.

ON DECK: The Isotopes and Chihuahuas will play game two of their three-game series Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. Left-handed pitcher John Lannan (3-2, 3.76 ERA) is schedule to start for Albuquerque, while El Paso will go with right-hander Daniel McCutchen (1-5, 5.26 ERA).

IN THE HOLE: After their seven-game road trip the Isotopes will return to The Lab for a four-game series against the Reno Aces beginning June 30. During the homestand, Albuquerque will host a July 3 post-game fireworks show with live music accompaniment by the Albuquerque Youth Symphony Program.
