Today's Game: The Oklahoma City Dodgers continue their three-game home series against the Colorado Springs Sky Sox with an 11:05 a.m. matinee at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. The Dodgers have won 12 of their last 14 games.
Last Game: The Dodgers scored five unanswered runs and the Dodgers pitching staff retired 25 of the final 26 Sky Sox batters in a 5-1 win Tuesday night against Colorado Springs at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. The Sky Sox took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Elian Herrera hit a RBI single to shallow right field. It would end up being the last hit for the Sky Sox until there were two outs in the ninth inning. Sky Sox starting pitcher Drew Gagnon retired the first 10 batters he faced, but the Dodgers were able to rally in the fourth inning. With the bases loaded and one out, Gagnon (1-9) uncorked a wild pitch that allowed the tying run to score. Scott Schebler then connected on a two-run double to center field to give Oklahoma City a 3-1 advantage. The Dodgers took a 4-1 lead in the fifth inning, when Gagnon's second wild pitch of the game allowed Buck Britton to score. In the seventh inning, O'Koyea Dickson hammered a solo home run down the left field line to put the OKC Dodgers ahead, 5-1. After giving up the RBI single to Herrera in the first inning, Scott Baker went on to retire the next 16 Sky Sox batters. Baker (6-3) pitched 6.0 innings, allowing one run and three hits with one strikeout in the win. After Baker left the game, the Dodgers pitching staff retired the next eight consecutive hitters as well, running the streak to 24 in a row.
Today's Probable Pitcher: Deck McGuire (3-2) looks to notch a third win in as many games...His last outing was Friday against Memphis. He entered the game in the fourth inning following appearances by three rehabbing L.A. Dodgers pitchers. McGuire tossed 5.0 innings and held the Redbirds to one run and four hits. He issued three walks, struck out two, and picked up his third win with OKC...He's earned wins in each of his last two outings, allowing a total of three runs and 10 hits over 12.0 IP...McGuire was promoted to OKC on May 24 from Double-A Tulsa. He currently leads the Dodgers minor league system with seven wins and 80.1 innings. He is also third with 65 strikeouts and fourth among full season affiliates with a composite 2.91 ERA...In six of 13 overall games, he's held his opponent to one or no runs, and to two or fewer runs in 10 of 13 outings. He's lasted at least 6.0 innings in 10 of his 12 starts...Today will be his first career start against the Sky Sox.
Against the Sky Sox: 2015: 3-1 2014: 9-7 All-time: 80-56 In OKC: 49-20
The Dodgers won the first series of the season between the teams, 2-1, June 15-17 at Security Service Field. Each of the first two games were shortened due to rain and/or wet grounds, and the series finale went 11 innings. Austin Barnes led the way at the plate, going 5-for-8 with four RBI...OKC has won 12 of its last 15 home games against the Sky Sox dating back to 2011, including the last seven straight...Oklahoma City won the 2014 season series with the Sky Sox, going 9-7 overall, including 6-2 in Bricktown...Oklahoma City has won the last three season series between the teams.
Winning Ways: The Dodgers have won 12 of their last 14 games, as well as 13 of their last 16. They have tied their season best record at 24 games above .500. The last time an Oklahoma City team was 25 games above .500 was Sept. 5, 1999 (83-58)...The Dodgers are one of only two teams in the Minors with at least 47 wins. The Double-A Corpus Christi Hooks pace the Minors with 48 victories.
Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark Clinic: A cadre of Los Angeles Dodgers pitchers are currently in OKC on rehab assignments. Paco Rodriguez (elbow strain) and Pedro Baez (pectoral strain) each turned in a 1-2-3 inning last night. Brandon League (shoulder impingement) last appeared on Sunday. Brandon Beachy (Tommy John surgery) started Sunday's game and is scheduled to start Friday in Nashville.
Getting Offensive: The Dodgers offense was slowed down a bit last night, and although they scored five runs, they were limited to five hits. It marked the 10th time they've won a game this season with five or fewer hits...Over the past 14 games, the Dodgers are batting .306 (140x458) and have scored 75 runs (5.4 rpg). They've been even hotter the past six games, notching at least 12 hits four times while batting .320 (66x206). The team has raised its season average from .236 to .250, and they are averaging over one more run per game than they did through their first 56 games (4.2 rpg)...During the current homestand, the Dodgers are 17-for-45 (.378) with runners in scoring position.
Great Scott: Scott Schebler went 1-for-3 last night, including a key two-run double. The reigning Pacific Coast League Player of the Week is currently on a seven-game hitting streak, batting .545 (12x22), with four extra-base hits, 10 RBI, and four runs scored. He's been even better during the homestand, going 10-for-15 with a home run and eight RBI, and has reached base safely in 14 of 20 plate appearances over the five games...After batting .208 through the end of May, Schebler is hitting .365 in June.
A Real Barnes Burner: Austin Barnes has hit safely in 11 of his last 13 games (11/12 starts), batting .408 (20x49) with 13 RBI and 10 runs scored. He's collected five multi-hit games, including three games with at least three hits.
Wilk This Way: Over his last 12 games, Andy Wilkins is hitting .417 (15x36) with three homers, three doubles, 10 RBI, and five multi-hit games. In five games against the Sky Sox, he is 6-for-12 with three runs scored.
The Tao of Tsao: Since returning from the Disabled List on May 23, Chin-Hui Tsao has allowed one run over 12 appearances, totaling 13.0 IP. During that time he's scattered 10 hits and has 14 strikeouts.
(Strike) Zoning Laws: Last night, the Dodgers pitching staff did not allow a walk for the fifth time in the past 15 games. They have allowed the fewest walks in the PCL this season (170) and also own a league-best 3.2 strikeout-to-walk ratio. However, their two strikeouts last night set a new season low for a nine-inning game (previously three; June 4 vs. Sacramento)...On the other hand, the offense struck out just once, setting a new season low as well. It was OKC's lowest strikeout total since June 19, 2014 at Reno.
Getting Some Sun: The Dodgers have won five straight day games and are 10-7 in day games overall this season (5-2 at home). However, they've had trouble with early starts this season, going 0-4 in games that begin before noon (0-2 at home).
