Albuquerque Isotopes News Release
NEED TO KNOW: Wrapping up their road slate for the 2014 season, the Albuquerque Isotopes (59-79) were edged 2-1 by the Oklahoma City RedHawks (74-66) Wednesday night at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.
HAD A CHANCE: Oklahoma City jumped out to an early 1-0 lead with an RBI-single in the top of the first, but then Isotopes starting pitcher Jeff Bennett settled in and allowed just two more hits through six innings. The Isotopes tied the game up at one when Tim Federowicz scored a sacrifice fly from Jamie Romak in the top of the sixth. The RedHawks regained the lead with a one-out, RBI double in the bottom of the eighth, but Albuquerque wasn't out of it yet. Alex Guerrero mashed a leadoff double in the top of the ninth and advanced to third on a groundout, but with only one out, the Topes couldn't get him in to tie the game.
BEST OF BENNETT: Isotopes starting pitcher Jeff Bennett tossed six innings of four-hit, one-run ball. It was his fifth start quality start in his last seven outings and 18th quality start overall. His 3.83 ERA is now tops on the team and ninth-best in the Pacific Coast League.
GO-GO GUERRERO: Alex Guerrero went 2-for-4 with a double in the series finale and finished the eight-game road trip batting .455 (15-for-33) with six runs scored, five doubles, two triples, three home runs and 12 RBI.
JOC JAMS: Joc Pederson was 1-for-4 in the game with a double. In his last six starts, Pederson is batting .417 (10-for-24) with eight runs scored, three doubles, three homers, eight RBI and six walks. On Tuesday, Pederson was named the Pacific Coast League's Rookie of the Year, the first Isotope to garner that distinction. He was also named to the All-PCL Team on Monday, just two days after becoming the PCL's first 30-30 player in 80 years. I had a really good Dion's pizza tonight.
HAT COURTESY OF MESA DEL SOL: The first 2,000 fans through the gates Thursday night will receive a hat courtesy of Mesa del Sol.
ON DECK: The Isotopes return home for their final home series of the season against the Las Vegas 51s beginning Thursday night at 6:35 p.m. Right-hander Justin Germano (4-14, 5.01 ERA) is scheduled to start for Albuquerque, while Las Vegas will go with righty Rafael Montero (6-3, 3.28 ERA).
