TACOMA, Wash. -- The Tacoma Rainiers used a 13-hit barrage to blow past the Iowa Cubs 5-3 at Cheney Stadium on Tuesday night.

Three of those hits came as part of a three-run inning for Tacoma in the second. Trailing Iowa 1-0, catcher John Hicks evened the score with a one-out RBI single. James Jones drove in the go-ahead run with an RBI single one out later, and then another run scored when Cubs leftfielder Junior Lake committed an error on an attempt to field it.

The Rainiers tacked on two more runs on four hits in the fourth inning. Stefen Romero lined an RBI single that plated Nate Tenbrink and upped the lead to 4-1. Justin Smoak was responsible for the team's final appearance on the scoreboard after driving in Hicks with a sacrifice fly one batter later.

The outfielder Romero was one of two Rainiers players to turn in three-hit performances after going 3-for-5 with an RBI. He now leads the Pacific Coast League with a .427 (35x82) average in 20 games played this month. Infielder Ketel Marte collected the clubs other three-hit night following a 3-for-3 effort.

Starter Andrew Carraway (8-5) collected win after holding the Rainiers to one run on three hits in 5.0 innings. The right-hander struck out three and walked one in his 21st turn in Tacoma's rotation. Carson Smith struck out one in a perfect inning of work in the ninth and collected his tenth save of the season.

The Rainiers (72-66) host the team's final home game of the season when they take on Iowa (69-70) one last time tomorrow, August 27. Left-hander James Gillheeney (3-10) is scheduled to start for Tacoma and the Cubs are expected to start right-hander Dae-Eun Rhee (1-2, 5.19). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
