Albuquerque Isotopes News Release

The Albuquerque Isotopes (37-28) had five different players collect two or more RBI in a 12-5 victory over the Round Rock Express (27-38) on Monday night at Isotopes Park. With Oklahoma City dropping its contest, the 'Topes are now only a game and a half in back of the Redhawks in the PCL American Southern Division.

Round Rock was able to squeak out an early1-0 lead in the first, but the one-run edge proved to be the Express' only lead of the night as the Isotopes pounded out five runs in their half of the inning. The rally began with a leadoff double from Matt Angle, who took third on a groundout back to the pitcher. Scott Van Slyke followed with a walk and Jeff Baisley lifted a sac-fly that scored Angle and knotted the game 1-1. Albuquerque's bats then caught fire, igniting with a single from Luis Cruz, an RBI single from Josh Fields and a two-run knock from Tim Federowicz to give the 'Topes a 4-1 lead. The big inning continued with Brian Cavazos-Galvez roping an RBI triple to extend his hitting streak to nine games and widen the lead to 5-1. Cavazos-Galvez has 15 hits over the course of the streak that began June 2.

Round Rock would respond in the third with a leadoff walk to Dusty Brown followed by an RBI triple to right-center from Luis Hernandez that narrowed the deficit to 5-2. Leonys Martin then drove in his second run of the night with a sac-fly to left, bringing the Express within 5-3.

After the 'Topes scored in the third on an RBI single from Cavazos-Galvez and Round Rock answered with a run in the sixth to make the score 6-4, Albuquerque put the game out of reach in the bottom of the sixth. Federowicz led off the frame with a double to right-center, advancing to third on an error by Yangervis Solarte. The Express second baseman misplayed the next ball as well, allowing Federowicz to score while Aaron Miles reached first. Angle followed with a sac-bunt to advance both runners into scoring position, setting the stage for Jerry Sands, who snuck a two-run single up the middle to make the score 9-4, 'Topes.

The Express' shaky defense continued in the seventh as Cruz reached first and took second on a throwing error by Hernandez. Federowicz then smashed his second double of the night, this one off the left field wall, scoring Cruz and extending the Isotopes' advantage 10-4. The Isotopes catcher now has nine hits and nine RBI in his last four games. Albuquerque native Cavazos-Galvez capped off the inning with an RBI single to left that made it 11-4.

After the 'Topes tacked on a final insurance run in the eighth with an RBI single from Fields, Tommy Mendonca crushed a solo shot to left to bring Round Rock within 12-5. 'Topes reliever Ramon Troncoso was able to quickly rebound, striking out the next two batters and inducing a groundout to seal the Isotopes 12-5 win.

Albuquerque's short, three-game set against the Round Rock Express continues tomorrow night with 'Topes southpaw Michael Antonini (1-4, 4.56) getting the ball against Express lefty Michael Kirkman (5-1, 5.25). The second game of the series is set for a 7:05 PM start from Isotopes Park.

The 'Topes second half of their homestand continues tomorrow and will be capped off with a Baseball Card Giveaway on Wednesday.
