Oklahoma City Comets News Release

Metairie, La. - The Oklahoma City RedHawks (39-26) scored 10 runs over the course of five innings and Paul Clemens earned his sixth win in his last seven starts as the RedHawks took a 10-7 victory over the New Orleans Zephyrs (33-32) Tuesday night before 2,997 at Zephyr Field.

Mike Hessman opened the scoring with a long home run out to left field in the second inning. Three more followed in the third to give the RedHawks a 4-0 lead.

The Zephyrs took the lead in the bottom of the inning, putting five on the board. Trailing 4-1, Mike Cervenak knocked a two-run double, and Nick Green followed with a go-ahead two-run homer.

The lead didn't last long, as the RedHawks went back in front in the fourth. A safety squeeze bunt by Paul Clemens scored the tying run. The go-ahead run scored after New Orleans catcher Luke Montz picked up a ball in the dirt with his mask. By rule, each runner is awarded one base, and Landon Powell scored as a result.

Jimmy Paredes came through with a two-run, two-out single in the fifth to make it 8-5. For the third time in four games, Paredes collected four hits, finishing 4-for-5.

A two-run double in the sixth by J.B. Shuck gave the RedHawks their largest lead of the game at 10-5.

In the bottom of the inning, Kevin Mattison sent a line drive off the right field foul pole for a two-run homer, pulling the Zephyrs within three.

That's as close as New Orleans would get. Although the Zephyrs brought the tying run to the plate a couple of times in the ninth, they never seriously threatened. Fernando Abad went the final 1.1 innings to earn his second save.

Outside of a bumpy third inning, Clemens (8-4) pitched well, holding the Zephyrs scoreless with two hits over his other four innings. He struck out two and walked three.

For the second straight start against the RedHawks, New Orleans pitcher J.D. Martin (3-6) lasted just 3.1 innings. He was charged with six runs on seven hits with two strikeouts and no walks.

The RedHawks and Zephyrs finish their series Wednesday morning at 11:30 a.m. Live coverage begins at 11 a.m. on AM 1340 The Game, 1340thegame.com, or through the free IHeartRadio mobile app.
