Sacramento River Cats News Release
FRESNO, Calif. - A pair of hits by Manny Ramirez was not enough for Sacramento Monday night, as it dropped the series opener against the Fresno Grizzlies at Chukchansi Park, 3-2.
The River Cats got on the board early, taking a 1-0 lead in the first on a Ramirez RBI double. After Fresno took the lead with single runs in the first and fifth, Stephen Parker tied the score in the sixth with a run-scoring single.
But the Grizzlies plated the eventual game-winning run in the seventh on an RBI single by Francisco Peguero, and held on to snap Sacramento's three-game winning streak and pull within a half-game of Sacramento for the division lead.
Newly acquired reliever Danny Farquhar-who was claimed off waivers from Toronto on Saturday-suffered the defeat, surrendering a single run in two innings.
Mitch Lively picked up the win in relief of Fresno starter Yusmeiro Petit, who held Sacramento to two earned runs in six innings. Heath Hembree earned his 10th save of the year after throwing a scoreless ninth.
Grant Green recorded another multi-hit game, his sixth in his last seventh game. Green extended his hitting streak to seven games, during which he has gone 18-for-35, raising his average to .305 in the process.
Sacramento and Fresno continue the series Tuesday, when the River Cats are scheduled to send RHP Brad Peacock (6-3, 4.87 ERA). He will be opposed by Fresno LHP Jason Stevenson (1-1, 8.18 ERA), with game time set for 7:05 p.m. PT from Chukchansi Park.
Sacramento returns home on Thursday, June 14, for an eight-game homestand against Tacoma and Fresno. The homestand opener is set for 7:05 p.m. at Raley Field, and is a Miller Lite Thirsty Thursday featuring a Salute to the Red, White & Blue presented by the U.S. Army. For the game on June 14-as well as the games on July 2 and July 3-all active-duty and retired military personnel will qualify for discounted tickets. Call (916) 371-HITS for details.
