Islanders Recall Katic, Return Joensuu

BRIDGEPORT, Conn (Feb. 24, 2011) - In a pair of separate transactions this morning, the New York Islanders have recalled defenseman Mark Katic on an emergency basis from the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the American Hockey League and returned forward Jesse Joensuu to Bridgeport.

Katic, 21, earns his first career NHL call-up. The Porcupine, Ont. native has appeared in 52 games with the Sound Tigers this season and shows three goals and 18 assists for the Islanders' AHL affiliate. Joensuu returns to the Sound Tigers following his third stint this season with the Islanders. The 6-4, 209-pound forward was recalled on Feb. 9 and recorded one goal and one assist over nine games. Joensuu heads back to the Sound Tigers where he has 18 points (seven goals, 11 assists) in 26 games.
