Islanders Reassign Seven to Sound Tigers

UNIONDALE, N.Y. - (April 14, 2014) - The New York Islanders announced today that forwards John Persson, Johan Sundstrom, Mike Halmo, Justin Johnson and Brett Gallant have been returned the Bridgeport Sound Tigers (AHL) on loan along with defensemen Scott Mayfield and Matt Donovan.

Persson, 21, appeared in 10 games during his first stint in the National Hockey League. He scored his first career NHL goal against the Washington Capitals on April 5. In 43 games with the Sound Tigers this season, Persson has 16 points (12 goals, four assists).

Sundstrom, 21, played in 11 games with the Islanders this season. He notched his first career NHL point with an assist in the Islanders game against the Columbus Blue Jackets on March 23. Sundstrom has notched 17 points in 38 AHL games for the Sound Tigers this season.

Halmo, 22, saw action with the Islanders in 20 games in 2013-14. His first career goal came against the Florida Panthers on April 1. Halmo returns to the Sound Tigers, where he scored 37 points (17 goals, 20 assists) in 54 games this season.

Johnson, 32, was recalled by the Islanders on April 11 and played in two games for the Islanders, where he collected seven penalty minutes. Johnson has five points (one goal, four assists) and 183 penalty minutes in 48 games with the Sound Tigers this season.

Gallant, 25, skated in four games in his first trip to the NHL. He picked up three fighting majors and finished his NHL season with 17 penalty minutes. He has 245 penalty minutes in 56 games with the Sound Tigers this season, along with two points (one goal, one assist)

Mayfield, 21, saw five games of action for the Islanders in his first NHL recall. He will return to the Sound Tigers with 17 points (three goals, 14 assists) and 125 penalty minutes in 69 AHL games.

Donovan, 23, is the only player of the seven being loaned to the Sound Tigers who has spent the majority of his season with the Islanders. He appeared in 52 games for the Islanders this season and scored 16 points (two goals, 14 assists). In 27 games with the Sound Tigers, Donovan has 21 points (seven goals, 14 assists).
