Islanders Agree to Terms with Jeremy Smith

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. - The New York Islanders announced today that goaltender Jeremy Smith has agreed to terms on a two-way (NHL/AHL) contract for the remainder of 2018-19.

Smith, 29, has played 32 games this season for the Islanders' American Hockey League affiliate, the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. He is tied for the team lead in wins (16-9-1) and has recorded a 2.92 goals-against-average and .900 save percentage. He was named the CCM/AHL Goaltender of the Month for December after going 6-1-0 with a 2.12 goals-against-average and .931 save percentage in seven starts.

Last season, the Dearborn, Mich. native played 30 games with the AHL's Charlotte Checkers and went 13-13-1 with a 2.71 goals-against-average and .902 save percentage. He made his NHL debut in 2016-17, playing in 10 games with the Colorado Avalanche.

Originally selected by the Nashville Predators in the second round (54th overall) of the 2007 NHL Draft, Smith has played 327 career AHL games with the Sound Tigers, Charlotte Checkers, Providence Bruins, Milwaukee Admirals, Springfield Falcons, Iowa Wild and San Antonio Rampage. He boasts a 161-120-23 record with a 2.50 goals-against average, .914 save percentage and 13 shutouts.

Prior to turning pro, Smith played four seasons in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) with the Plymouth Whalers and Niagara IceDogs from 2005-09.
