Delmarva Shorebirds News Release
Salisbury, Md- Kannapolis rallied for three runs in the seventh inning to steal game one of a doubleheader from the Delmarva Shorebirds 5-4 at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium.
Down 4-2 going into the final inning, the Intimidators put the first three batters to load the bases off of Delmarva reliever Luis Lebron. After Lebron struck out John Shelby, Brandon Allen grounded out to first to drive in a run and cut the Shorebirds lead to 3-2. With runners on second and third, Victor Castillo allowed a pitch to get away for a passed ball and tie the game. Chris Carter followed with a solid single to center to drive home Sergio Miranda with the winning run. Carter went 3-for-3 with an RBI and Stefan Gartrell went 2-for-3. Shelby hit his seventh homer of the season in the third to give Kannapolis a 2-0 lead.
Danny Figueroa led the comeback for the Shorebirds with a couple of hits and two stolen bases. Pedro Florimon hit his third homerun of the season in the sixth to give Delmarva a 4-2 lead.
The win ruined a very good start from Delmarva starter Kyle Schmidt. Schmidt went six innings and allowed two earned runs on six hits and struck out five. Noe Rodriguez picked up the win for Kannapolis in relief, with Kanekoa Texeira picking up his 15th save of the season.
Game 2 Recap: Salisbury, Md- Mike Grace went 3-for-3, including a go-ahead two-run homerun in the fifth as the Kannapolis Intimidators defeated the Delmarva Shorebirds 9-4, sweeping both ends of a doubleheader at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium.
Kannapolis put up a four-spot in the fifth after Chris Vinyard hit a two-run homer to give Delmarva a 3-1 lead. With two runners on and one out, Chris Carter singled to center to score John Shelby and cut the Delmarva lead to one. Stefan Gartrell followed with an RBI groundout to tie the game, then Grace hit a shot to left off of Shorebirds reliever Wilfrido Perez to give Kannapolis a 5-3 lead. Grace went 3-for-3 with three RBI while Carter was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI, his 80th of the season.
Fautino De Los Santos, normally a starter, picked up the win for Kannapolis in relief. He went two hitless innings, walking a batter and striking out three. Perez took the loss for the Shorebirds, giving up four earned runs on three hits in his only inning of work.
These two teams will play another doubleheader tomorrow. First pitch for game one is set for 5:30, with the second game starting 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first game.
