Savannah Sand Gnats News Release
SAVANNAH, Ga. - For the first time in more than two years the Sand Gnats were shut out in back-to-back games as they fell 10-0 tonight to the Greensboro Grasshoppers. Jeremy Mizell (3-11) suffered his team-leading 11th loss of the season while Michael Hyle (4-4) improves to .500. The last time Savannah was shut out in consecutive games was May 26-27, 2005.
Things went awry from the beginning for the Gnats as Logan Morrison hit his 21st home run of the season to give Greensboro an early 2-0 lead. Mizell was able to work through the second inning unscathed but ran into more trouble in the third as he allowed two solo home runs in the inning. Mizell would leave with one away in the fourth with the bases loaded. Officially, Mizell went 3.1 innings, allowing seven runs on nine hits.
The Gnats offense was quiet again today as they only collected three hits on the evening, two off the bat of Brahiam Maldonado. Jonathan Castillo worked a scoreless seventh and now hasn't allowed a run in 13.1 innings.
Savannah (13-25) will try to earn a split in the series Thursday when they meet with the Grasshoppers for the final time in 2007. On the mound for the Sand Gnats will be Josh Stinson (3-10, 5.04), who is looking for his first win since July 4th.
Thursday will also be Lindsay Lohan Drunk Driving Awareness Night at the stadium, which will occur in conjunction with the usual Thirsty Thursday half-priced beer promotion. First pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m. For tickets and a complete schedule, visit www.sandgnats.com.
