
Intimidators Earn First Doubleheader Sweep of Season

Salisbury, MD ? The Kannapolis Intimidators came into Wednesday?s doubleheader against the Delmarva Shorebirds just 3-9 in doubleheader games in the 2007 season. However, the Intimidators (18-20, 50-58) locked down a doubleheader sweep against the Shorebirds (17-21, 51-53), winning 5-4 and 9-4 at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium.
In the first game, the Intimidators scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning (the final inning) to take the game, 5-4. Chris Carter knocked in the winning run with his third single of the game. Noe Rodriguez (2-2) threw 1.2 innings of relief to get the win and Kanekoa Texeira pitched a 1-2-3 bottom of the seventh with two strikeouts to get his 15th save of the season. John Shelby had a two-run home run to get the scoring started.
The Intimidators scored all nine of their runs in the final four innings of the second game. Kannapolis broke ahead on a two-run Mike Grace home run in the fifth and used four Delmarva errors to add to the advantage late. Grace went 3-for-3 with the home run, two singles, and a walk, driving in three runs in the game. Carter had two more hits, scoring twice and driving in a run. Fautino De Los Santos (8-4) got the win with two innings of relief.
Stefan Gartrell had two hits in both games for the Intimidators.
With no games being played in the first two scheduled days of this series, the Intimidators and Shorebirds will have to play another doubleheader Thursday night. The first pitch of the first game is scheduled for 5:35 pm, with the second game beginning 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first game.
