Augusta GreenJackets News Release
Hagerstown, MD - The GreenJackets (50-20, 21-19) dropped both games of a double-header to the Hagerstown Suns (29-38, 13-26) on Wednesday, both by the score of 3-2. The GreenJackets have dropped the first three games to the Suns on their 10 day, eight game road trip.
In the first game of the double-header the Suns plated all three runs in the third inning. Marcos Cabral got the scoring started with an RBI base hit then Leonard Davis followed with an RBI double for a 2-0 advantage. Joe Napoli came up next and blooped an RBI single into short left field for a 3-0 lead.
Clayton Tanner (10-6) pitched the complete game for Augusta and recorded his second straight loss. Tanner allowed eight hits, did not walk a batter and struck out four.
Augusta got its two runs in the sixth inning on a two run homer from Bobby Felmy, his 14th of the season.
In Game 2 Augusta out hit the Suns 9-7 but came up short in the runs column. The GreenJackets again fell behind 3-0 with the Suns plating single runs over the first three innings. Michael Martinez scored the first run on an RBI sac-fly to center from Marcos Cabral for a 1-0 lead and the Suns had a 1-0 lead without the benefit of a hit.
The Suns added a run in the second inning when Joe Napoli scored on a passed ball then in the third inning a two-out RBI base hit from Patrick Nichols scored Martinez for a 3-0 lead.
Augusta got single runs in the fifth and seventh innings when Marcus Sanders connected for an RBI single scoring Tyler Graham from third after Graham led off the half inning with a triple.
In the seventh inning Ryan Rohlinger connected for a two-out RBI single scoring Sanders to trim the lead in half but that's all Augusta would get.
Mike Musgrave (0-1) suffered the loss in the spot start working 1.2 innings and allowing two runs, one earned, on two hits. Musgrave also walked one and struck out two.
The GreenJackets and Suns finish up their series Thursday night as Augusta looks to avoid the sweep and lefty Ben Snyder (12-3, 1.88) to the hill. Hagerstown will counter with right-hander Jeff Mandel (2-3, 3.86). First pitch is at 7:05 p.m.
