Aberdeen IronBirds News Release
The IronBirds defeated the Batavia Muckdogs to complete the three-game sweep with a 3-2, walk-off win on Tuesday night. Ronarsy Ledesma scored on a throwing error in the 12th to earn the rain-delayed win.
The Wait Game
Neither team scored until the fifth inning. Brandon Rawe hit an RBI single driving home Ryan Cranmer.
More Waiting
Immediately after Rawe's double, the game went into a rain delay that lasted a total of one hour and 48 minutes.
Wait No More
Coming back from the rain delay the Muckdogs added a run to the board thanks to a sacrifice hit by Anfernee Seymour. The Muckdogs led the IronBirds, 2-0 after four and a half.
Match Makers
The IronBirds answered in the bottom of the fifth with a Guillermo Salas RBI single, bringing home Jerry McClanahan, making it 2-1 Muckdogs. Odenwaleder, who advanced to third on the Salas hit, was brought home by a Cedric Mullins double. The IronBirds tied the game at 2-2.
But Wait there's more!
The game went to 12 innings. In the bottom of 12th, Ronarsy Ledesma was entered as a pinch runner for Steve Laurino, who singled. Ledesma then scored the game winning run after a throwing error by Muckdogs second baseman, Joe Chavez.
Hot Hits
Guillermo Salas recorded a RBI in a second straight game. Steve Laurino hit a single to bring his hit streak to three games after starting the season with a six game hitting streak.
Bird Watching
RHP Andrew Elliott made his professional debut by pitching a scoreless eighth inning...Elliott allowed one hit and struck out two batters....Steve Laurino has a hit in three straight games.... In a combined effort, the IronBird's pitching staff struck out double digit batters for the third night in a row, striking out 13 Muckdogs on Tuesday night.... LHP Daniel Ayers matched a career high three innings pitched and match his season high of two strikeouts... The IronBirds swept the Muckdogs for the second consecutive year.
