Brooklyn Cyclones News Release

FISHKILL, NY - July 1, 2015 - Cyclones starter Tyler Badamo (1-1) faced the minimum number of batters through 7.0 near-perfect innings, allowing just one hit, as the Brooklyn Cyclones deafeated the Hudson Valley Renegades by the score of 7-0 on Wednesday night at Dutchess Stadium. With the victory the Cyclones improved to 8-4 on the young season, including a 5-1 mark on the road.

The Cyclones wasted no-time lighting up the scoreboard on Wednesday evening, as they jumped in front of the Renegades in the top of the first. Tucker Tharp reached on a fielding error to start the game and Michael Bernal worked a one-out walk before David Thompson reached on the second error of the inning to load the bases. Michael Katz took advantage of the scoring chance with a bases loaded walk and Jeff Diehl followed with an RBI single to give Brooklyn a 2-0 advantage.

With Badamo locked in on the mound, that would be more than enough offense for the Cyclones, but they were just getting started. After a scoreless second inning, Alfredo Reyes led off the third with a double to left field and Bernal followed with a single that put runners on the corners with nobody out. David Thompson, who has at least one hit and one RBI in all five of his starts since joining the Cyclones, chased home Reyes with a sacrifice fly to make it 3-0 in favor of the Cyclones.

Brooklyn added to their lead in the fifth, once again with Thompson - the Mets 4th round selection out of the University of Miami - plating a run. The former Hurricane ripped a single through the left side of the infield to score Bernal from second and push the Brooklyn advantage to 4-0.

In the sixth inning, the runs came from a less likely source as catcher Nata Ramos connected on a 1-1 offering for a two-run home run, his first hit of the season, to extend the Cyclones advantage to 6-0. The Cyclones used the long ball again in the top of the ninth, this time courtesy of a solo shot from pinch hitter Pedro Perez to make the final score 7-0.

Cyclones starter Tyler Badamo left after 7.0 phenomenal frames before turning the ball over to Craig Missigman and Carlos Valdez who completed the shutout.

The Cyclones will return to MCU Park Thursday night, with RHP Gaby Almonte (1-1) on the mound for the middle game of a three-game commuter series with the Hudson Valley Renegades. It will be Back to the Future Night on Coney Island, and the first 3,000 fans in attendance will receive a 1.21 GigaWatts Jersey courtesy of Pepsi. Tickets, which start at just $10, are on sale now at the MCU Park Box Office, by calling 718-507-TIXX, or right here at BrooklynCyclones.com.
