August 14, 2011 - New York-Penn League (NYPL)
Williamsport Crosscutters News Release

The Williamsport Crosscutters allowed six runs to the Aberdeen Ironbirds in the eighth inning Sunday night, dropping the series finale 9-3 at Ripken Stadium.

The Cutters broke a scoreless tie in the top of the third inning on a sac fly to left by Aaron Altherr. The IronBirds answered in the bottom of the third on a solo home run by Austin Goolsby to make it 1-1.

Williamsport regained the lead 2-1 in the top of the fifth inning, as Pete Lavin doubled and later scored on sac fly to right by Bob Stumpo. Aberdeen again answered, as in the sixth inning Wynston Sawyer's two-out, two-run single to center gave the IronBirds a 3-2 advantage.

The Cutters notched it up in the seventh, as Altherr's RBI groundout with the bases loaded made it a 3-3 game.

Aberdeen broke it wide open in the eighth, sending 11 men to the plate and tallying six runs on five hits and two walks, taking a commanding 9-3 lead off the Cutters bullpen. That score would be the final, as the Cutters were retired in order in the top of the ninth.

The Cutters hit the All-Star break with a 32-24 record, and will resume regular season play with a home game versus Tri-City on Wednesday at 7:05pm. They trail first-place Auburn by one game in the Pinckney Division standings. Every game can be heard on ESPN Radio 104.1 FM, ESPN 1050 AM, or online at crosscutters.com
