Aberdeen IronBirds News Release

Wappingers Falls, NY - The Aberdeen IronBirds' road woes continued Saturday night at Dutchess Stadium. The Hudson Valley Renegades shutout the IronBirds 8-0 in the first of four straight games the two clubs will play against each other.

The Renegades took the early lead in the first inning. Leadoff hitter Chris Winder popped a ball up to the infield. Miscommunication between IronBirds' third baseman Connor Narron and shortstop Mychal Givens led to the ball dropping in. Winder ended up on second with a 100-foot double. Juniel Querecuto knocked him in with another double, making it 1-0.

Hudson Valley struck for two more in the fourth inning. With runners on first and second and two outs, Leonardo Reginatto singled to left field. The ball went under left-fielder Martin Serrata's glove, allowing both runners to score.

Bridwell left the game after five. He surrendered three runs (two earned) on five hits. The right-hander walked one and struck out seven.

Jose Mota came in to start the sixth and struggled. With one out, Matt Rice singled and Jeff Malm walked. Kyle Holloway knocked them both in with a double. Cesar Guillen knocked in Holloway on a single, advancing to second on the throw home. Reginatto singled in Guillen. Brian Bryles singled as well, putting runners on the corners for Dio Luis. He grounded into a fielder's choice, scoring Reginatto and making it 8-0.

The IronBirds didn't get anything going offensively as they were shutout for the second time this season. They mustered just two hits against Renegades starter Parker Markel and reliever Mickey Jannis.

Markel (1-0) got the win after pitching five shutout innings. Bridwell (1-2) took the loss. Jannis (1) pitched four scoreless innings for his first save of the season.

The IronBirds will try to pick up their first road win of the season Sunday evening at Dutchess Stadium. Aberdeen will have right-hander Jake Cowan (0-2, 2.81) on the hill. He'll go up against fellow right-hander Andrew Leary (0-0, 3.75). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05.

The Aberdeen IronBirds sold out season tickets for the 10thstraight season. Group packages and single-game tickets, however, are still available for the 2011 season. For ticket information, contact our box office at (410) 297-9292 or visit us online at www.IronBirdsbaseball.com.
