Aberdeen IronBirds News Release

Tonight's Match-up

Losers of four straight games and 13 of their last 14, the Aberdeen IronBirds will try to right the ship against the Hudson Valley Renegades (Class-A Short-Season affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays). The IronBirds and Renegades will play four straight games against each other; two at Dutchess Stadium and then two at Ripken Stadium. The IronBirds are coming into the series having been swept at the Staten Island Yankees. The IronBirds will have right-hander Parker Bridwell on the hill. He'll go up against fellow right-hander Parker Markel.

The Parkers

This will be Bridwell's second start of the season against Hudson Valley. In his first outing, he looked electric. Bridwell struck out nine batters in five scoreless innings of work. Bridwell has been the starting pitcher in both IronBirds wins this season. On the other side, Markel has not allowed an earned run yet this season in two outings. The Renegades, however, have lost both games he's started.

Record-Setting Start

At just 2-13, the IronBirds are off to the worst start through 15 games in franchise history. After winning opening night, the IronBirds have won just one game. Despite the struggles, it wasn't the worst June in Aberdeen history. The 2005 club went just 1-9 in the season's opening month (a .100 winning percentage).

Cold Bats

The IronBirds have the second-worst team batting average in the New York-Penn League. The club is hitting just .222. The State College Spikes currently hold the league's worst batting average at .207. Just three IronBirds are hitting above .270: Mychal Givens (.304), Joe Velleggia (.283) and Wynston Sawyer (.279).

See Ya, McNamara Division Teams

Following these four games with the Renegades, Aberdeen will begin to play teams from outside the division. The first team they'll play from the McNamara Division is the Lowell Spinners (Class-A Short-Season affiliate of the Boston Red Sox). Following the three games against Lowell, the IronBirds will head to Tri-City for three.
