NORWICH, CT - The Lowell Spinners used the best offensive performance in the New York-Penn League this season to take down the Connecticut Tigers 16-8 on Saturday night at Dodd Stadium.

The 16 runs were tied for the most in a single game by any team in the league so far this year, while their 24 hits was by far the most in a single game by any team.

The Tigers fell into an early 2-0 hole in the top of the first, but came back with a run in the bottom of the first to make it a 2-1 game.

However, Lowell would blow the game open with a five-run second inning and a run in the third would put the Spinners up 8-1. They scored in every inning except the fourth and seventh en route to the win.

Travis Shaw led the attack with a 4-for-4 night, including three runs scored and five RBIs on three doubles and a home run. Drew Turocy added five hits, going 5-for-6, completing the leagues first five-hit performance of the season.

Samir Rijo led the Tigers, going 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI in the loss. Patrick Leyland added two hits as well for Connecticut.

Tyler Barrett suffered his first professional loss, surrendering seven runs, only two earned runs, on seven hits in just 1.2 innings of work. Jason Garcia improved to 2-0 picking up the win for Lowell.

The Tigers will host the Lowell Spinners, Class A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, for the final game of a two-game weekend series tomorrow afternoon. First pitch is set for 1:05 PM at Dodd Stadium.
