
IronBirds Break Tie in Tenth Inning and Grab Win

ABERDEEN,MD-The Aberdeen IronBirds (16-24) battled the Vermont Lake Monsters (19-21) in the second game of the series at Ripken Stadium. On the hill, RHP David Richardson (2-2, 3.48) faced RHP Tyler Vail (0-2, 6.62). The IronBirds managed to enter into extra innings for the second time this season, the first being against previous series rival, the Jamestown Jammers.
After a scoreless first inning, SS Wilfredo Solano grounded out and allowed C Bruce Maxwell to score. No runs scored until the fifth inning when the Birds' managed to tie the score at 1-1 when CF Gregory Lorenzo grabbed a double, his first of the season and brought LF Will Howard to the plate.
The Birds' and Lake Monsters held the game tied until the tenth inning when, with two outs and three men on base, Joel Hutter smacked a fly ball to far right field allowing Lorenzo to score the winning run for the Birds'.
Winegardner took the win, his second, for the IronBirds while Ryan Dull was assigned the loss for the Lake Monsters. IronBirds starting pitcher, Richardson, pitched a career-high 6.1IP. His performance included 6.1IP, 4H, 1R, 1ER, 2BB, 2SO. Birds' P Tommy Winegardner aided the Birds' in the ninth, pitching 1-2-3 inning with 4IP, 1H, 0R, 1BB, and 5K.
The IronBirds and the Lake Monsters meet for a rubbermatch, in the final game of the series on Monday, July 30. First pitch is at 7:05 p.m. IronBirds RHP Brady Wager (0-0, HNP) will take the mound for the Birds' and face RHP Kris Hall (1-0, 0.52). Coverage on the IronBirds Radio Network begins at 6:50 p.m.
