Middle of the Order Does the Job
Trey Mancini, Conor Bierfeldt, and Mike Yastrzemski scored all five runs for the IronBirds as they took the series opener against the Vermont Lake Monsters by a score of 5-1. Pitching OUTstanding...again
LHP Jorge Rivera, RHP Jimmy Yacabonis, and RHP Austin Urban held the Lake Monsters to just four hits and one run last night. Rivera got the start, and went four innings, allowing just one hit, one run, and one walk. He struck out four. Yacabonis came in and was dominant. He pitched two perfect innings, striking out four and earning his first professional win. Urban then came on and pitched a nine out save, his first as a professional. All told, the IronBirds allowed just two walks and struck out ten.
Streak Over...For Now
Jared Breen did not record a hit last night, the first time since June 24th that that has happened. He currently sits tied with Brandon Fahey at 17 games for the longest hitting streak in franchise history. Breen still has a chance to break the streak when the IronBirds and Staten Island Yankees complete their June 25th game. It was announced today that the game will be completed July 28th at 4 p.m. in Staten Island.
On the mound tonight...
RHP Dyland Rheault will get the start for the IronBirds tonight. In his last outing, back on Friday, July 12, he had just finished his third inning of work when the rain came and suspended the game. In his last official start, back on July 6th, Rheault went three innings, allowing four hits, one run and one walk, while striking out one. He will be opposed by Brent Powers. The left hander is making his sixth start of the season, and holds a 2-1 record with a 2.08 ERA. In his last start, at Batavia, Powers went five innings, allowing five hits, one run and one walk, striking out four. Powers has gone at least four innings in each of his five starts this season.
One Long Trip Leads to Another...
The IronBirds will head to Jamestown following tomorrow night's game against the Lake Monsters. The Jammers are leading the Pinckney Division, and it is the only time the two teams are scheduled to meet during the regular season. Aberdeen returns home on July 23rd for a three game home stand against the Lake Monsters at Ripken Stadium.
