Mahoning Valley Scrappers News Release
Brooklyn, NY- The Mahoning Valley Scrappers have been waiting for a night where all aspects of their game gelled. On a hot and sticky 97 degree night in Brooklyn, NY it finally happened and propelled the Scrappers to a 6-2 win over the Brooklyn Cyclones. The bats banging out 13 hits while committing no errors defensively and walking only 1 batter is the recipe for a win.
Kenny Mathews took the mound to start the game for the Scrappers and worked 3 innings for the first time this season and was near perfect. In 3 innings he allowed 1 hit while striking out 3. Alexis Paredes (1-1) followed Mathews with 3 strong innings of his own. He allowed 1 run on 4 hits. Paredes also walked none and struck out 2. Kyle Crocket came in relief of Paredes. Crockett went 2 innings and allowed 2 hits. He walked one and struck out 4. Trevor Frank finished off the game by throwing the 9th. He allowed 2 hits and 1 run. He didn't walk anyone and struck out 1.
Offensively the Scrappers struck first in the 2nd inning. James Roberts started the inning with a single. After advancing to 2nd on a ground out, he came into score on a fielding error for the first run of the game. The Scrappers added another run in the top of the 5th inning. Sicnarf Loopstok started the inning with triple to right center. Juan Romero drove him in on the next pitch for a 2-0 lead. The 6th inning would prove to be the big inning for Mahoning Valley. A leadoff walk for Roberts was followed by back to back singles from Robel Garcia and Josh McAdams with McAdams driving in Roberts. Another Romero single brought home Garcia. McAdams was then chased to the plate on a single from Joel Mejia. The Scrappers added an insurance run in 8th inning. Mejia walked with 2 outs and came around to score from first on a double from Claudio Bautista.
The Scrappers and Cyclones will meet in the rubber match on Friday evening at 7:00pm from Brooklyn, NY. Catch the action with Tim Pozsgai on 1440AM and online at www.mvscrappers.com.
