Iowa Cubs News Release
OKLAHOMA CITY, OK - The Iowa Cubs (4-17) loaded the bases with no outs in the ninth, but couldn't plate a run as they fell to the Oklahoma City Dodgers (17-4) 5-3, Sunday at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. The I-Cubs have lost eight in a row.
Iowa got going early as Mike Freeman drilled a single with one out in the first to jumpstart the offense. Freeman got into scoring position with a swiped second base, setting himself up to score on a Taylor Davis single.
The I-Cubs built on their 1-0 lead in the second as Alec Mills helped himself with a base hit. Ryan Court snapped a 0-for-14 skid, following with a towering home run to center field to give Iowa the 3-0 edge. Court's homer was his second of the season and the first for an I-Cub since April 22.
Oklahoma City didn't let the I-Cubs settle in. In the third, former I-Cub Cael Brockmeyer started things off with a single and Breyvic Valera came through with a two-run home run to pull the Dodgers within a run. Two frames later, two runs off four hits would boost Oklahoma City into the lead.
The home team cushioned the edge with a run in the sixth off Randy Rosario, foiling the lefty's 0.00 ERA.
Iowa had a comeback brewing as hits from Chris Gimenez and Efren Navarro, followed by an error loaded the bases with no outs in the ninth. Jacob Hannemann struck out looking before Court grounded into a double play and the I-Cubs came up empty, solidifying the Dodger series sweep.
Chesny Young was locked in, going 2-for-3 for his first multi-hit game of the season. Davis extended his hitting streak to six games with a 1-for-4 day.
Iowa returns home for a four-game set with the Omaha Storm Chasers beginning tomorrow at 6:38 p.m. Promotions for the homestand include Dollar Dogs Monday, Kids Night Tuesday and Mug Club Thursday. For more information or tickets, visit www.iowacubs.com.
