Salt Lake Bees News Release

The Salt Lake Bees belted four home runs on their way to a 6-4 win over the El Paso Chihuahuas on Sunday afternoon.

Ryan Schimpf started the barrage with a two out, solo shot in the second to take a 1-0 lead. Zach Houchins led off the third inning with his third home run of the season to make it 2-0 and Schimpf added his second of the game and third of the year in the fourth to make it 3-0. Allen Craig ripped a bases empty blast of his own in the fourth off of Salt Lake reliever Ralston Cash to put El Paso on the board, but Kaleb Cowart crushed a two run shot in the fifth, his second of the season, to give the Bees a 5-1 lead. The Bees have now hit a PCL leading 47 home runs.

After the Chihuahuas scored three in the seventh inning to pull to within one, Eric Young, Jr. gave the Bees a little breathing room with an RBI single in the eighth to take a 6-4 lead. El Paso loaded the bases in the ninth, but Salt Lake pitcher Ian Krol induced Diego Goris to ground into a game ending double play and earn his third save of the season. Adam Hofacket (3-0) retired all five batters he faced to earn the victory. Schimpf led the Bees with two hits and two runs batted in, while Houchins added two hits and one RBI. David Fletcher had two hits to stretch his hitting streak to twelve games and Jose Miguel Fernandez doubled in his last at-bat to extend his streak to eleven games. The win gave Salt Lake a 3-2 series edge over El Paso, which is their fifth consecutive series victory.
