Round Rock Express News Release
MEMPHIS, Tennessee - The Memphis Redbirds (17-7) broke a 1-1 tie in the sixth inning with four runs to ultimately collect a 6-1 victory over the Round Rock Express (9-15) in Sunday afternoon's series finale at AutoZone Park.
Express RHP David Ledbetter (0-3, 5.27) posted his longest outing of season, allowing five runs on seven hits and a pair of walks in 7.0 innings. The righty struck out five in the losing effort. On the winning side, Memphis RHP Ryan Helsley (1-0, 1.29) permitted just one run on four hits and a walk while striking out nine in 7.0 innings.
The Redbirds jumped on the board in the third thanks to a solo Alex Mejia home run. The Express quickly leveled the game at 1-1 as CF Jose Cardona led off the fourth inning with a single. After a Scott Heineman double put a pair of runners in scoring position, LF Willie Calhoun grounded out to drive in Round Rock's only run of the day.
Memphis put the game away for good in the sixth inning. RF Oscar Mercado led off with a single and raced home on an ensuing Max Schrock double. Following a Luke Voit walk, 1B Rangel Ravelo stepped to the plate and launched a three-run homer to put the Redbirds up 5-1.
The home side added an insurance run in the eighth as E-Train LHP Brandon Mann hit Ravelo and CF Randy Arozarena with pitches to put a pair of runners aboard. A two-out fielding error by SS Christian Lopes allowed Ravelo to race home, extending the final score to 6-1.
The Memphis bullpen faced just one over the minimum in the final four innings of play to seal the series-ending victory for the Redbirds.
The Express now head to Louisiana for a four-game set against the New Orleans Baby Cakes. Round Rock RHP Tyler Wagner (0-0, 6.28) is scheduled to face New Orleans RHP Ben Meyer (1-2, 2.21). First pitch in Monday night's series opener at the Shrine on Airline is set for 7:00 p.m.
