Salt Lake Slips Late in El Paso

El Paso snapped a 2-2 tie with five runs in the eighth inning to give the Chihuahuas a 7-2 win over the Salt Lake Bees on Saturday night.

Jake Jewell, who was making his Triple-A debut, walked two of the first three batters in the eighth. Jordan Jankowski came on in relief and Diego Goris hit his first pitch over the left field wall for a three run homer. El Paso would add two more runs in the inning on a single by Cory Spangenberg .

The Bees took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth, as Rymer Liriano walked, stole second and scored on a double to right field by Ryan Schimpf, but El Paso tied it up in the bottom of the fourth on a solo homer by former Bee Raffy Lopez . Lopez gave the Chihuahuas a 2-1 lead in the sixth with a two out RBI single, but the Bees evened it up in the seventh. Eric Young, Jr. extended the inning with a two out single to center and scored from first on a double to right center by Kaleb Cowart .

Jewell (0-1) was charged with the loss, as he went one and two-third innings and allowed two runs on two hits with three strikeouts and three walks. Salt Lake starter Jaime Barria pitched well, as he went five and two-third innings and gave up just two runs on five hits with six strikeouts. The Bees totaled eight hits in the game with six of them coming from the top two spots in the batting order, as Young and Cowart each went 3 for 5 at the plate. Jose Miguel Fernandez went 1 for 4 to extend his hitting streak to 10 game hitting streak, while Jabari Blash had his eight game hitting streak come to an end.
