Iowa Stars traning camp roster grows

DES MOINES, IA - Iowa Stars Director of Hockey Operations Scott White announced today the assignment of four players , as part of the Dallas Stars agreement, from the Edmonton Oilers. Edmonton has assigned centermen Toby Petersen and Dan Baum along with defensemen Jason Platt and Kenny Smith to the American Hockey League (AHL) Iowa Stars.

A native of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Toby Petersen skated in 78 games with the Edmonton Roadrunners last season, recording 14 goals and 15 assists: 78(14/15/29). Selected by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft, the 26 year-old centerman appeared in 79 games with Pittsburgh, notching eight goals and 10 assists: 79(8/10/18). While with Pittsburgh's AHL affiliate in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton in 2000-01 and 2002-2004, he played in 215 games, registering 72 goals and 105 assists: 215(72/105/177).

Also playing for the Roadrunners last season, Dan Baum accumulated 206 penalty minutes in just 48 games: 48(3/4/7)206. The left-handed, Saskatchewan-born, center registered 179 points and 666 PIM's in 258 games from 1999-2003 with the Prince George Cougars of the Western Hockey League (WHL): 258(79/100/179)666.

San Francisco, California native Jason Platt, played his collegiate hockey at Providence College in Providence, Rhode Island from 2001-2004. The 6-1, 210 pound defenseman's four year college career spanned 126 games and included 24 points: 126(5/19/24)149. The 2000 NHL Draft pick of Edmonton, recorded 28 PIM's in 44 games last season with the Roadrunners: 44(1/1/2)28.

Kenny Smith appeared in 64 games with the Greenville Grrrowl (ECHL) and five games with Edmonton the Roadrunners last season: Greenville - 64(3/6/9)68, Edmonton - 5(0/0/0)4. Born in Stoneham, Massachusetts, Smith enjoyed a four-year career at Harvard University (ECAC) from 2000-2004. The third round 2001 NHL Entry Draft selection had 41 points, including 30 assists in 121 games: 121(11/30/41)181.

The Iowa Stars begin their inaugural season on October 6th and 8th at Wells Fargo Arena against the Peoria Rivermen and Omaha Knights, respectively. Both games will have a 7:05 PM start time. Tickets to all games can be obtained by calling 515-23-STARS.
