Ak-Sar-Ben Knights gain two players

Omaha, NE - The Omaha Ak-Sar-Ben Knights have gained youth and experience on their blueline as they build their roster for the start of Training Camp. The Knights' National Hockey League affiliate, the Calgary Flames, has assigned veteran defenseman Steve Bancroft to Omaha. In addition, the Knights have signed rookie defenseman Brandon Rogers to an AHL contract. Both players will be in Omaha when the Ak-Sar-Ben Knights begin their first ever training camp on Monday, September 26th at the Omaha Civic Auditorium at 12:00 p.m. All training camp sessions are open to the media and the general public.

Bancroft is entering his 16th professional season. Last season, he appeared in 33 games for the Augsburger Panthers of the German Elite League, scoring four goals and 12 assists for 16 points and 103 penalty minutes. The native of Toronto, Ontario has played in 955 career professional games including 471 AHL games. His most recent AHL season was 2003-2004 when he played in 77 games for the Binghamton Senators, scoring seven goals and 16 assists for 23 points and 131 penalty minutes. Originally a first round draft pick of the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1989, Bancroft won a Calder Cup with the Providence Bruins in 1999.

Rogers recently completed his college career at the University of Michigan. During his senior season, he had five goals and 22 assists for 27 points and 70 penalty minutes in 42 games for the perennial CCHA powerhouse. The native of Rochester, New Hampshire played in 159 career games at Michigan, scoring 18 goals and 59 assists for 77 points and 211 penalty minutes.

On Thursday, September 29th, the Knights host the Iowa Stars at 7:00 p.m. at the Civic in preseason action. Tickets for the game and all regular season home games are on sale now at the Civic Auditorium box office from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and at all Ticketmaster outlets. All general admission tickets for the preseason game are just $10.
