Iowa Cubs News Release

PAPILLION, NE - A go-ahead RBI single from Robel Garcia propelled the Iowa Cubs (29-19) to a 3-2 victory over the Omaha Storm Chasers (20-27), Thursday at Werner Park. Iowa is 7-0 in Omaha this season.

Iowa took a 2-0 lead in the second as Johnny Field smashed his sixth homer of the season to left. In the home half of the inning, Samir Dueñez quickly cut the I-Cubs' lead in half with a homer of his own. Both teams put up zeros until the fifth as another homer from Andrew Susac locked the contest.

A leadoff double from Trent Giambrone in the eighth set up the Iowa victory as Garcia came through with a two-out RBI single after striking out in his first three at-bats.

Matt Swarmer snapped a streak of 12-straight games for Iowa's starting staff without a quality outing. Swarmer held the Storm Chasers to two runs on four hits, walked two and struck out six through 6.0 frames. The Iowa bullpen was flawless as Dakota Mekkes (W, 2-0) gave Iowa 2.0 innings and fanned three before Tim Collins earned his first save of the season as he whiffed two in 1.0 frame.

Postgame Notes:

- Trent Giambrone went 2-for-4 with a double and was the only batter in the top four of the order to record a hit.

- Tim Collins is the eighth Iowa Cub to record a save in 2019.

- Iowa struck out 13 times, one shy of its season high.

Iowa goes for the sweep in Omaha at 7:05 p.m. tomorrow at Werner Park. Follow the action on AM 940, TuneIn Radio or www.iowacubs.com.
