Iowa Drops Opener to New Orleans

DES MOINES, IA - The New Orleans Baby Cakes (3-3) just slipped by the Iowa Cubs (4-2) 4-3 in their home opener at Principal Park, Tuesday in front of 8,401 fans.

Iowa and New Orleans battled back-and-forth throughout the game, tying the contest three times. The I-Cubs got the first run on the board in the first on a Phillip Evans RBI double.

The two teams traded RBI doubles through the middle frames, getting a knock from Bryan Holaday in the second, Ian Happ in the fifth and Austin Dean in the sixth. New Orleans pushed to a one-run lead with a Harold Ramirez RBI double in the sixth, but the edge was quickly erased by the I-Cubs in the bottom of the inning as game locked again at 3-3.

New Orleans took back the lead in the seventh with the help of a couple of free passes and an error. The edge held as the Baby Cakes took a 4-3 win.

Duncan Robinson cruised through five frames, before running into trouble in his last inning of work. Robinson was ultimately tagged for three runs, two earned, over six frames.

Postgame Notes

- Ian Happ went 2-for-4 with one run one double, one RBI and one walk

- Iowa was held to a season-low five hits, but the pitching staff also held New Orleans to a season-low six hits.

- The I-Cubs committed three errors in the game after tallying just two miscues through their first five contests.
