Intimidators Lose Another Late Lead in Delmarva; Fall 4-2
August 11, 2019 - South Atlantic League (SAL1) - Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release
SALISBURY, MD - The Kannapolis Intimidators (24-25, 52-65) took an early lead against the Delmarva Shorebirds (31-17, 79-38) on Sunday afternoon, but late in the game the bullpen failed to hold the lead and ultimately fell 4-2 at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium.
Kannapolis struck first in this one. Tyler Osik notched his first hit as an Intimidator in the top of the second with a double that scored Cam Simmons and Corey Zangari to take a 2-0 lead.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Shorebirds got one run back from a Ben Breazeale single that scored Seamus Curran.
Johan Dominguez had made his first start since getting injured on July 9th and had a solid outing on the mound. In five innings, he allowed six hits, just one earned run, and struck out seven while walking nobody. Declan Cronin came in for relief in the sixth and pitched a clean inning while striking out two.
Hansen Butler (L, 0-1) made his debut on the mound for Kannapolis in the bottom of the seventh, but it didn't go quite the way he would have wanted. Delmarva used a single and walk to start off the inning, and then a wild pitch from Butler brought one runner in to tie the game, 2-2. The next batter, Nick Horvath, then singled to left and drove in another run to give the Shorebirds the 3-2 lead.
Delmarva added one insurance run in the bottom of the eighth after a wild pitch from Justin O'Conner brought Doran Turchin in to score.
The Intimidators will return home on Monday night as they take on the Greensboro Grasshoppers at 7:00 p.m. The starters are TBD.
