Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release

Lexington, KY - Despite putting up a two-spot in the seventh inning to take the late lead, Kannapolis (17-17, 45-57) dropped their last game in Lexington against the Legends 3-2 in an eleven inning affair Thursday night at Whitaker Bank Ballpark.

It didn't take long for the Legends to get on the board against Kannapolis' Kevin Folman, as Rudy Martin led off the bottom half of the first with a double to right on the first pitch of his at-bat. After a sacrfice bunt from Jeison Guzman, Nathan Eaton singled in Martin on a groundball up the middle to give the Legends an early lead.

The Legends (15-18, 52-50) had their oppurtunity in the second to score as well after Folman walked two straight batters with one out. However, after a mound visit from pitching coach Jose Bautista, Folman retired Martin and Guzman via strikeout to get himself out of the jam.

Cameron Simmons recorded his first of two hits in the third inning with a ground-rule double (1) to right field, but after a failed sacrfice bunt from Ramon Beltre, Kannapolis failed to bring Simmons in.

After recording two strikeouts in the bottom of the fifth inning, Folman allowed a walk and a single to Eaton to put two runners on. Eaton proved to be the last batter that Folman faced. Former Oklahoma right-handed pitcher, J.B. Olson, replaced Folman, and with two outs and two on, induced a groundout to Lenyn Sosa at shortstop to end the threat.

Folman finished the day only allowing three hits and one run, including seven strikeouts and three walks on 89 pitches.

The Intimidators only had three batters reach base throughout the game against Lexington's starter Zach Haake, as Haake tossed 5.0 innings of brilliant ball, only allowing one hit and striking out eight.

With Haake out of the game, Kannapolis looked to take advantage in the seventh frame. Alex Destino singled on a groundball to right field on a 1-2 pitch to lead off the inning, followed by a wild pitch by pitcher Tyler Gray, sending Destino to second. After a Corey Zangari strikeout, Sosa doubled (26) on a groundball down the right field line, scoring Destino to tie the game, 1-1.

Two batters later, Simmons connected on his second hit of the day with a groundball single up the middle to score Sosa from third to give the Intimidators a 2-1 advantage through seven.

After a clean eighth from Johan Dominguez (H, 2), Austin Conway (BS, 2) took over in the ninth. Up in the count 0-2, Conway induced a groundball to third baseman Camilo Quinteiro, as Quinteiro fielded it cleanly but threw wildly to Andrew Vaughn at first. After a five-pitch walk to Rubendy Jaquez, John Rave singled on a bunt back to Conway to create a bases loaded scenario for Brhet Bewley. On a 2-1 pitch, Bewley hit a sacrfice fly to Destino in right field, tying the game, 2-2.

With neither team being able to manufacture a run in the tenth, Wyatt Burns took over on the mound for the Intimidators in the eleventh. After an intentional walk to put runners at first and second, Rave singled, followed by a Bewley single to walk it off for the Legends.

Kannapolis will head back to the state of North Carolina on Friday to take on the Greensboro Grasshoppers for the start of a four-gamer in Greensboro. Sam Long (4-3, 3.88 ERA) will take the bump for Kannapolis against Greensboro's Colin Selby (3-3, 3.18 ERA) at 7:00 p.m. on Friday at First National Bank Field.
